‘CSU Statesman’ artists brush up on Luzonwide press con

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan – Two editors from the Arts and Graphics Department of The CSU Statesman bagged awards in their respective individual contests in the recently concluded 16th Luzonwide Higher Education Press Conference (LHEPC) held on February 22-24, 2017.

Demetrio E. Celestino III, Art Editor, snatched both championship title in Editorial Cartooning (Filipino category) and Literary Graphics Illustration (Filipino). He also emerged as 3rd Highest Individual Pointer for garnering 20 points.

Meanwhile, Godfrey B. Evasco, Assistant Art Editor, placed 6th in Editorial Cartooning (English) and 7th in Literary Graphics Illustration (English).

Both artists are sophomore students taking Ladderized Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology – Drafting.

In the overall tally of points earned from the Group and Individual Contests this year, the Central Luzon region defended last year’s championship upon earning 948 points, which is 16 points above 1st runner-up CALABARZON.

Bicol region was adjudged 2nd runner up with 434 points followed by Cagayan (360 points), MIMAROPA (216), Ilocos (202), and Cordillera Administrative Region (110).

Here is the breakdown of points earned by region:

Individual Contests – CALABARZON, 360 points; Bicol, 284; Central Luzon, 242 points; MIMAROPA, 216; Ilocos, 202; and CAR, 110.

Group Contests – Central Luzon, 706; CALABARZON, 626; Cagayan, 182; Bicol, 150; MIMAROPA, 126; Ilocos, 57; and CAR, 21.

The theme of this year’s LHEPC is “Propelling Change Through Empowered Campus Journalism.”
